Following the July 2009 arrest of Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates, on the front porch of his own home by Cambridge Police Sergeant, James Crowley, President Obama invited the two men to the White House for a meeting over beer to discuss the incident. This year marks the ninth anniversary of Obama’s “Beer Summit.”
At the same time in Philadelphia, Global Citizen held its own Beer Summit in Center City for concerned citizens to meet, mingle, and discuss race relations in both our city and throughout America.
On Monday, July 30th we will continue our discussion about race, class and power with the 10th annual Global Citizen Beer Summit and will discuss how we all can overcome the barriers that have continued to divide so many.
Beer, soft drinks and snacks will be provided during the event. To get to the Beer Summit, you must use the main entrance on the corner of 12th Street closest to Filbert Street. Once inside, there will be someone to direct you to where you can find the Beer Summit within the market.
If you are driving, there will be on-street/meter parking and availability in the garage next to the Hilton Garden Inn (1100 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA). The garage entrace is on west side of 11th Street between Filbert and Arch. Discount tickets will be available at the registration table and can be used at the conclusion of the Beer Summit. To retreive your parking discount, simply give your ticket to the clerk when paying prior exiting the garage.
Space is limited, so please register now if you plan to participate.
